Dear Students and Parents:
On behalf of the Belmar School District administration, faculty, and staff, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our students and their families as we begin the 2016-17 school year. We trust that you have all been enjoying the beautiful weather that our lovely shore area provides and are feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting year! We believe that the foundation of our students’ future successes will be found in the power of our combined efforts and the strength of our relationships. Our challenge is to embrace the future of the 21st century and ensure that our students are properly prepared to become leaders in this dynamic and globally diverse society. In order to accomplish this monumental task, we must provide a high level of personalization in every aspect of a student’s school experience, a proud recognition for individual and group accomplishments, and an unwavering commitment to the development of character and civic responsibility in our youth.
As our district enters the fifth year of implementing the initiatives set forth in our five-year strategic plan, we are proud of the fact that many of our goals, including a robust and sustainable 1:1 Chromebook initiative for students in grades 5-8, have not only been met ahead of the planned timelines but have increased in scope as we’ve moved the 1:1 initiative to fourth grade students, as well as increasing mobile devices for students in grades PreK-3. As teachers become increasingly skilled in a spectrum of instructional technology applications, students’ level of engagement and investment in their learning grows exponentially. In our K-4 grade span, we’ve instituted the best practice of “looping,” whereby students in looping classes remain with their teacher for two consecutive years, allowing for more in-depth student/teacher relationships and greater opportunities for more customized instruction. Additionally, Belmar School District has embraced the “maker movement” by providing a unique opportunity for students in grades 5-8 to participate in a collaborative experience to imagine, design, and create innovative solutions to real world problems.
We continue to evaluate the ways in which our instruction and curricular resources are aligned with the expectations and rigor of the new Common Core Standards. Our talented staff of educators creatively seek ways to infuse inter-disciplinary and STEM aspects to provide students with a breadth of real-world experiences that stress critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in college, career, and life.
We look forward to meeting all of our families at Back To School Night on Tuesday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m.
